Raise Your Hand and Volunteer!

Volunteering to serve on one of our committees is one of the most rewarding reasons for joining our organization. Be part of a group of dedicated volunteers and members that continue to work to educate, learn, and serve our community.

When you become a member of the KRHS, you can choose the committees on which you want to serve, and share your passions and strengths!

Are you an event planner? Join our Events Committee.

The Events Committee is responsible for planning events to promote the Historical Society and bring the community together. This involves creating a comprehensive event plan (producing an agenda, managing food and beverage if needed, securing entertainment or speakers, managing the event budget), recruiting volunteers and overseeing the event from start to finish.

Some examples of previous events are the annual History Speaks! series, an antique roadshow, a pie auction, visits from an elementary school, a Christmas tree lighting and open houses.

Are you connected on Social Media? Join our Communications Committee.

Connecting the general public to the Keswick Ridge Historical Society is this committee’s responsibility. This is done by promoting the society and advertising events to the general public via various forms of media such as Facebook, website, email, posters, newspaper and radio. Facebook and the Historical Society’s website tasks also include responding to communications from the public, sharing local history and historical photos, and advertising books offered by the Society.

Are you a writer, editor, or publisher? Join our Publications Committee.

Members of the Publications Committee are responsible for the sale of books and other historical materials, monitoring inventory, and finding ways and means for reprinting books and promotional material.

Are you a people-person? Join our Membership Committee.

The committee is responsible for all aspects of membership. This includes extending invitations to join, collecting membership fees, welcoming and mentoring new members, recording membership contact information and recommending ways to acknowledge new members, to encourage participation and to attract non-members to join.

Are you detail-oriented? Join our Archives and Collections Committee.

This committee’s main role is the management of the Society’s archives and collections. This includes gathering, photographing, cataloging, researching, preserving, and storing artifacts. This committee decides which donations are accepted into the collection, arranges the loan of artifacts and assists the registrar and curator in developing displays.

Are you handy? Join our Buildings and Facilities Committee.

This committee is responsible for the restoration, repair and maintenance of the society’s grounds and its buildings, the Schoolhouse and the McKeen Corner Store. It also reviews and recommends priorities for construction and renovation projects.

Do you like solving mysteries? Join our Genealogy Committee.

This group is tasked with helping society members and the general public with research related to local history with a focus on genealogical research of family roots. It also serves as a resource on genealogical sources and procedures. Amateur and professional genealogists and historians are welcome to join this committee.
