Fond Memories

$10.00

Written by Estelle Haines & Aggie Rose Reddin in 2007. Printed with permission of the authors.

This is a lovely book of Estelle Haines' memories of summers spent at Mactaquac in the 20’s and 30’s. It contains photos and genealogy of the Haines, Jewett, and Donaldson families.

The book is written in three parts. First, it is a personal recollection of the author's memories of Macnaquac, with lots of Haines family genealogy, and vivid descriptions of life in Macnaquac in the 30's and 40's.

The second part, entitled "Donaldson House and Family: Six Farms become a Park", was written especially for the historians at Kings Landing, New Brunswick to add to their information about the Donaldson House.

Third, "Tour of Mactaquac Park" describes the farms that existed before they were turned into Mactaquac Provincial Park, and mentions landmarks of lost farms that still exist today that can be viewed by visitors to the park and trail system.

Estelle Reddin and her daughter Aggi-Rose Reddin have permitted the Historical Society to print and sell copies of their book.

We members of the Keswick Ridge Historical Society believe that it is important to acknowledge that the land on which we gather is the traditional unceded territory of the Wəlastəkwiyik (Maliseet) and Mi’kmaq Peoples. This territory is covered by the “Treaties of Peace and Friendship” which Mi’kmaq, Wəlastəkwiyik (Maliseet) and Passamaquoddy Peoples first signed with the British Crown in 1726. The treaties did not deal with surrender of lands and resources. They recognized Mi’kmaq and Wəlastəkwiyik (Maliseet) title and established the rules for what was to be an ongoing relationship of peace, friendship, and mutual respect between nations for two very different modes of life and land use.
